Progress and frustrations for Webling at Manfeild
Stefan had his first drive in the mighty Obertech Star Car at Manfield recently. Owner Norm Mcleod was unable to race, so offered me the drive. We had problems in qualifying & the first race with a miss fire, I could only do couple of laps qualifying. Having qualifed fastest, Stefan then when on to record 2 wins & a 2nd place in the field of 10 cars. These are great cars to race & it is good to do laps in the off season.
2011, I still intend to race TRS, that's the plan. |

Webling saves the best for last at Taupo
Oakura’s Toyota Racing Series driver, Stefan Webling (21) scored his second race podium of the 2010 TRS Championship, New Zealand’s premier single seater championship, when he placed second to his much more experienced team-mate, Earl Bamber in the third race of the final round of the championship last weekend at Taupo. This was also Webling’s best race result during the five-round championship, also finishing 3rd in the feature race at Timaru earlier in the season and his first podium for a round of the championship, finishing third overall behind Championship winner and runner up Mitch Evans and Earl Bamber respectably.
Webling, in his first year in the TRS class, qualified in an excellent fourth place which set him up well for the three races. However, in the first race his steering was bent after hitting a kerb on the inside of a corner and he had to pit to check for any serious damage, but still rejoined the race to finish in seventh place.
In the second race he finished fifth, but his Triple X team then made some changes to the set-up of his car, so that it was similar to that of Bamber’s and in the third reverse grid race, he started from the front row of the grid. In that race, only Bamber passed him, Webling holding off the rest of the field to ensure Bamber took the win – his third for the meeting. However, points leader going into the round, Mitch Evans, was able to finish consistently behind Bamber ensuring he won the championship from Bamber by three points. Webling finished seventh in the championship.
“I am very happy with my results from this meeting. For the first time this season, we started from the front row of a race in a good car. I adapted my style of driving to suit the changes to the set-up my Triple X Team made, and we achieved a very satisfying result.
I would like to thank all my supporters & my sponsors, Horizon Energy Services ltd, Miles Toyota, MC Communications and The bach @ Oakura beach. |

Speedway Midget Experience
Stefan's first taste of speedway midget racing at the Stratford International Speedway recently was frought with mechanical problems. The Eric Beadmore owned Toyota powered formula 2 car ran well in testing at Ferndene speedway during the week leading up to the race night. A miss fire on race night could not be remedied which meant Stefan had pull off in each race. The midget racing was full of action with forteen cars from Stratford and Huntly speedways exciting the crowd.

Formula Suzuki experience
Stefan took Kevin Varneys brand new Hydraulink Formula Suzuki straight into qualifying for the last round of the Formula Suzuki 2009 series at Taupo recently. Stefan achieved a 3rd & 4th placing in the first two races as he was getting to grips with the car & setup. Mechanical problems in the last race hindered progress and resulted in a DNF. The car felt better as the day went on and with more laps and chassis tuning I feel I could be competing with the front guys Stefan said.
